Mark the calendar: Xiaomi has confirmed its 18 Pro series is coming this September. According to a report by XimiTime, the rollout covers three devices — the Xiaomi 18 Pro, the 18 Pro Max, and the Xiaomi 18 Fold — though not everyone will get all three at the same time, and not everyone will get all three at all.
The foldable is doing the heavy lifting here. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is set to be the first phone running the company’s new XRING O3 AI chipset, a homegrown processor Xiaomi is positioning to go toe-to-toe with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 generation. Interestingly, the same chip won’t stay confined to phones — it’s also headed to the Mi Pad 9 Pro Max, marking XRING O3’s jump into Xiaomi’s tablet range.

The two Pro models, meanwhile, are sticking with third-party silicon. Both the 18 Pro (codenamed Hongkong) and the 18 Pro Max (codenamed Madrid) will run the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, keeping them aligned with what most other 2026 Android flagships are expected to use.
Buyers hoping for the vanilla Xiaomi 18 will have to wait considerably longer. That model — internally called Venice — isn’t launching alongside its Pro siblings at all. Xiaomi has it penciled in for December 2026 or possibly slipping into early January 2027, a gap of several months from the Pro launch. It also won’t be sold in India in any form; only the Pro and Pro Max variants are confirmed for that market, while other regions are expected to get the complete lineup eventually.
There’s a nostalgic touch coming back too. Xiaomi is reportedly reviving its transparent design option for the 18 series — the see-through back panel treatment that hasn’t shown up since the Mi 10 Ultra, and before that, cult favorites like the Mi 8 and Mi 9. It’s a niche cosmetic choice, but one with a loyal following among longtime Xiaomi fans who remember those earlier releases fondly.
Splitting a flagship generation this way — Pro models and a foldable first, standard model months later — isn’t something Xiaomi has always done, and it changes how the launch story plays out. Instead of one big reveal covering the whole lineup, the company gets two separate news cycles: one built around the foldable’s new chip in September, and a second, quieter one when the standard 18 eventually shows up early next year. It also means shoppers who specifically want the standard Xiaomi 18 — rather than a Pro, Pro Max, or Fold — are looking at a considerably longer wait, and in India’s case, no option to buy that variant locally at all.
None of this has been detailed down to pricing or exact specs yet. What’s confirmed for now is the September timing for the Pro trio and the chip pairing behind them — the rest, including how the standard 18 fits into the picture next year, should come into focus as the launch date gets closer.
