A Certification Filing Might Be the Biggest Clue Yet About Xiaomi’s Global Plans. Regulatory filings rarely make for exciting reading, but this one carries a genuinely interesting implication. The global variant of the standard Xiaomi 18 has shown up in Taiwan’s NCC certification database under model number 2611FPNFAG, and the timing alone is worth paying attention to.
According to a report by Gizmochina, the same model number previously surfaced in Europe’s EEC certification database back in July, and neither filing explicitly confirms the Xiaomi 18 name outright. Still, the model numbering and sequencing line up closely enough with what’s already known about the series that there’s little real doubt about what device this is.
What the Filing Actually Confirms
The certification points to 256GB and 512GB storage configurations, with roughly 198GB and 469GB of usable space respectively once the operating system and pre-installed software are accounted for. An IP68 rating for dust and water resistance is also listed.
Charging gets confirmed too, indirectly. The filing lists an accompanying charger under model number MDY-19-EX, and cross-referencing that against its separate TÜV Rheinland certification points to 100W wired charging support.
Why the Timing Is the Real Story Here
What makes this filing worth writing about isn’t the spec list itself, it’s when it showed up. Last year’s Xiaomi 17 reached the same NCC database toward the end of October 2025, and didn’t actually launch internationally until February 2026. The Xiaomi 18 clearing that same certification stage more than a month earlier than its predecessor did is a reasonably strong signal that Xiaomi could be planning a faster international rollout this time around.
That’s worth some caution, though. A certification filing confirms a device is far enough along in development to clear regulatory review. It doesn’t guarantee a specific launch date, and plenty of certified devices have still taken months to actually reach shelves.
A More Complicated Launch Structure Than Usual
There’s an added wrinkle to how Xiaomi appears to be staggering this generation. Reports point to only the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max launching in China this month, with the standard Xiaomi 18 held back until December, arriving alongside the Xiaomi 18 Ultra instead.
That opens up an interesting possibility: rather than following its usual pattern of a China launch followed several months later by a separate global event, Xiaomi could end up holding a single combined global launch in December, introducing the standard Xiaomi 18 and the Xiaomi 18 Ultra to every market, China included, at the same time.
If that plays out, it would mark a real departure from how Xiaomi has staged its flagship rollouts in recent years, splitting the Pro-tier launch from the standard and Ultra models by roughly three months rather than releasing the full lineup together. Whether that’s a permanent shift in strategy or a one-off adjustment tied to this specific generation’s chip and component timeline isn’t something Xiaomi has addressed, and likely won’t be clear until the December event, if it happens, actually takes place.
