A Month After China, HyperOS 4 Finally Crosses Into Global Territory. Xiaomi’s newest software generation has been running as a closed beta in China since mid-August. That exclusivity just ended. The company has officially opened the HyperOS 4 global beta, and this time it’s reaching devices running Global and EEA firmware specifically, rather than staying limited to the domestic market.
According to a report by Nokiamob, seven smartphone models are included in this rollout overall, split across two separate recruitment waves rather than opening to everyone simultaneously.
The Device List, Split Into Two Waves
Recruitment for the first wave is open right now, covering the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the standard Xiaomi 17, and the Leica Leitz Phone 1 powered by Xiaomi. A second wave follows on September 17, adding the Xiaomi 17T Pro, Xiaomi 17T, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and Xiaomi 15 to the eligible list.
Xiaomi has confirmed more regions are expected to join the testing pool in the coming weeks, so the current Global and EEA restriction looks like a starting point rather than a permanent limitation.
Signing Up Takes Four Steps
Getting into the beta isn’t automatic. Interested owners need to open the Xiaomi Community app, head to the ME tab, select Beta testing, then tap Recruiting test and fill out the application form. Approved applicants receive the HyperOS 4 build through a standard OTA update rather than needing to sideload anything manually.
Given how limited beta slots tend to be, applying as soon as a device becomes eligible is the more sensible approach than waiting, since there’s no guarantee later applicants get in once a wave fills up.
The Warning Worth Actually Reading
Before installing, there’s one detail that matters more than the feature list. Xiaomi is explicit that downgrading from the HyperOS 4 beta back to stable HyperOS 3 isn’t a simple reversible update. It requires a full manual flash, and that process wipes the device’s data entirely.
Combined with the usual beta caveats, bugs, instability, and the occasional app that doesn’t behave properly yet, that makes a strong case for testing this on a secondary device rather than a phone anyone depends on daily. Backing up everything important before updating isn’t optional advice here so much as a genuine prerequisite.
Reading the Rollout Strategy
Splitting seven devices into two recruitment waves, roughly ten days apart, follows the same staged approach Xiaomi already used domestically in China. Testing a smaller group first, then expanding once early issues get identified and fixed, tends to produce a cleaner build by the time it reaches a wider testing pool, and a considerably smoother one once it eventually reaches stable release.
It also says something about sequencing priorities. Leading with the 17 series and the Leica-branded Leitz Phone, then following with older 17T and 15-series devices a week and a half later, suggests Xiaomi wants its newest and most visible hardware validated first before pushing HyperOS 4 onto phones that are already a generation or two into their lifecycle.
For now, the practical takeaway is straightforward: seven eligible devices, applications open through the Xiaomi Community app, and a second wave arriving September 17. Anyone outside that list, or outside the Global and EEA regions currently covered, will need to wait for Xiaomi’s next regional expansion before getting a shot at trying HyperOS 4 early.
