Redmi 17C 5G Launches in India With 120Hz Display and 6,000mAh Battery

Xiaomi has brought the Redmi 17C 5G to India, following a Singapore launch for the same phone back in August. It’s a budget 5G device built around a big screen and a big battery, two things Redmi’s cheaper lineup consistently leans on to stand out.

Specs at a Glance

The phone uses a 6.9-inch IPS LCD panel at 1600 x 720 resolution, with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 660 nits. It supports DC dimming and covers 83% of the NTSC color gamut, numbers that put it solidly in budget territory rather than anywhere close to flagship color accuracy, but that’s expected at this price.

Camera-wise, there’s a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, paired with a basic secondary lens, and an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

Power comes from MediaTek’s 6nm Dimensity 6300, paired with up to 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of storage, expandable up to 1TB via microSD. It ships on HyperOS 3, though Xiaomi hasn’t said how many years of software updates it’ll get, which is worth keeping in mind if long-term support matters to you.

The 6,000mAh battery supports 33W wired charging and 10W reverse wired charging, letting the phone top up accessories in a pinch. Xiaomi says the battery retains at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,000 charge cycles, a figure aimed at buyers who keep their phones for several years rather than upgrading annually.

Other details include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm headphone jack, IP64 splash and dust resistance, and Google’s Circle to Search and Gemini Live built in. The phone measures 7.9mm thick and weighs 211 grams.

Pricing and How It Fits In

In India, the base 4GB/128GB model costs ₹20,999 (about $218), while the 6GB/128GB version runs ₹22,999 (about $239). It comes in three colors: purple dawn, dark night, and coffee brew, the last finished in a textured leather-like material rather than plain plastic or glass. Sales start October 7 through Xiaomi’s India website and Amazon.

It sits alongside the standard Redmi 17, which launched with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chip. Interestingly, both phones share identical display specs despite the difference in chipset, which tells you where Xiaomi decided to spend its budget on the 17C. Rather than matching the Redmi 17’s processor, it put the savings into keeping the same large, smooth screen while trimming cost elsewhere.

The Bigger Picture

A 120Hz display and a 6,000mAh battery at roughly $220 isn’t a new formula. It’s become close to the standard pitch for budget 5G phones across the industry this year, and Xiaomi isn’t the only one running it. HMD launched a nearly identical spec combination just days before this phone, which says less about any one company’s strategy and more about where budget phone expectations have settled industry-wide: big screen, big battery, modest chip, keep the price under $250.

For Redmi specifically, this also marks a quiet expansion of where the 17C is available, following its earlier debut in Singapore. Whether more markets follow before the end of the year hasn’t been confirmed.
