The wait is over. Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, and the timing wasn’t a coincidence — these are the first phones in the world to run Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips, according to a GSMArena report. The 18 Pro carries the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the 18 Pro Max gets first dibs on the beefier 8 Elite Extreme variant.
Qualcomm’s chip reveal and Xiaomi’s phone launch were separated by barely a couple of hours — a sign of how tightly the two companies coordinated this release.
What’s Actually New (and What Isn’t)
Beyond the chip upgrade, both phones pick up larger batteries, hardware-level privacy screens, and updated telephoto cameras. One thing that didn’t change: the rear displays carry over from last year’s models, though Xiaomi has pushed harder on what you can actually do with them.
Using the Xiao AI assistant, owners can now build their own mini apps for that rear screen — Xiaomi showed off examples like a water-reminder tool, an egg-timer app, and a recipe suggestion widget. The rear panel still doubles as a viewfinder for the camera system and supports custom AI-generated wallpapers and widgets.
Camera Specs Are Identical Across Both Models
Unlike some flagship lineups that reserve better optics for the pricier model, Xiaomi kept the camera hardware completely identical between the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. Both phones share a 200MP main sensor (a 1/1.28-inch Light Hunter 960) at a 23mm equivalent focal length, paired with a 200MP periscope telephoto offering 3.2x optical zoom at 75mm equivalent. A 50MP ultrawide with a 102-degree field of view rounds out the triple-camera setup.
Screens Hit 4,000 Nits on Both Models
Both phones use LTPO AMOLED panels running 2K resolution with a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate, protected by Xiaomi’s Dragon Crystal Glass 3. The 18 Pro’s screen measures 6.4 inches, while the 18 Pro Max sticks with the larger 6.9-inch panel from its predecessor. Peak brightness lands at 4,000 nits on both.
The privacy display feature confirmed ahead of launch is also here, and Xiaomi is positioning it as a step beyond what Samsung shipped on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Xiaomi’s version supports location-based triggers and can block out notifications, floating windows, and split-screen app content — not just the main display — and it’s accessible through a dedicated AI button on the phone’s side.
Batteries, Charging, and Software
Battery capacity climbed on both models: the 18 Pro now carries a 7,000mAh cell, an 11% jump over its predecessor, while the 18 Pro Max steps up to 8,500mAh, a 13% increase. Charging specs are identical across both phones — 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 27W reverse wireless. Both ship running HyperOS 4 out of the box and carry IP69 water and dust resistance, a rating that also covers protection against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.
Colors and Pricing
Standard color options include black, white, pink, and blue, with a special edition red version featuring a transparent back panel.
Pricing in China starts at 5,999 yuan (roughly $895) for the base 18 Pro in its 12GB/256GB configuration, climbing to 9,999 yuan (about $1,492) for the top-spec 16GB/1TB special edition. The 18 Pro Max starts higher, at 6,999 yuan (around $1,045) for its base configuration, and tops out at 10,999 yuan (roughly $1,642) for its highest-tier special edition model.
